Salesforce stock jumped as much as 13% after a Q2 earnings beat. The same day, it paired that with a new Anthropic partnership.

Salesforce reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 26, 2026. Revenue hit $11.35 billion, up 11 percent year over year. Shares jumped as much as 13 percent in after-hours trading. That's a sharp reversal for a stock down 22 percent on the year.

The earnings beat wasn't the only headline. On the same day, Salesforce and Anthropic announced Claudeforce, a partnership that puts Claude directly inside Salesforce's core products.

Behind the Numbers

Net income reached $3.53 billion, up 87 percent from $1.89 billion a year earlier. Roughly $2.6 billion of that jump came from one source. Salesforce's own equity stake in Anthropic rose sharply in value.

The rest of the quarter held up on its own merits:

  • Agentforce annual recurring revenue topped $1.5 billion, up 240 percent year over year.

  • Combined Agentforce and Data Cloud ARR reached nearly $3.9 billion, up more than 210 percent.

  • Current remaining performance obligation, a forward-looking revenue measure, hit $33.5 billion, up 14 percent.

  • Salesforce raised its full-year revenue guidance to a range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion.

CEO Marc Benioff called it one of the company's best quarters. Investors seemed to agree. The stock's 22 percent year-to-date loss going into the report shows just how much skepticism this quarter had to overcome.

Inside the Claudeforce Deal

Claude now sits inside three parts of Salesforce's platform simultaneously:

  • It becomes the default reasoning model for Slackbot and Agentforce Coworker.

  • It powers the Atlas Reasoning Engine, the system behind Salesforce's AI decision-making.

  • It runs Salesforce in Claude, a new plugin carrying 37 prebuilt sales skills, from meeting prep to pipeline review.

Salesforce in Claude is live now for select pilot customers, with an open beta planned for September. One detail matters more than the branding: Salesforce is keeping the system of record. Permissions, business rules, and the audit trail still run through Salesforce, no matter whether a rep opens Claude, Slack, or the CRM directly. Anthropic supplies the model. Salesforce still decides whether a pipeline update actually posts.

Why the Timing Is Notable

This deal lands at an interesting moment for Anthropic. Recent data showed Fable 5, Anthropic's flagship model, making up just 11 percent of its own AI spending. Businesses have been routing routine work to cheaper alternatives instead. A high-profile embed inside one of the world's largest CRM platforms changes that math. It gives Claude a default position in millions of daily sales workflows, not just a benchmark to compete on.

For Salesforce, the logic runs the other way. This deal follows a rocky stretch, covered in Salesforce's stock downgrade over Agentforce adoption concerns, when analysts questioned whether customers found Agentforce production-ready. Partnering with a frontier lab, rather than relying solely on its own models, is a direct answer to that skepticism.

Why This Matters for Businesses Using Salesforce

Existing Salesforce customers should expect Claude-powered features to start appearing inside tools they already use, not as a separate purchase decision. That changes the evaluation question. It's no longer just "should we adopt Agentforce," but "which AI model is actually doing the reasoning behind features we're already paying for."

Businesses building or extending their own agentic workflows on top of Salesforce should watch how quickly the September open beta expands. A model swap this significant, happening underneath a platform millions of sales teams already depend on, is worth testing early rather than waiting for full rollout. Teams designing their own multi-step AI workflows on top of a CRM can work through similar integration decisions with agentic AI development built around real production constraints.

Key Numbers:

  • Revenue: $11.35 billion, up 11 percent year over year.

  • Agentforce ARR: over $1.5 billion, up 240 percent year over year.

  • Stock reaction: up as much as 13 percent in after-hours trading.

  • New FY27 guidance: $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion in revenue.

  • Claudeforce rollout: pilot customers now, open beta in September 2026.

Where This Goes Next

The real test isn't this quarter's numbers. It's whether Claudeforce's September open beta shows sales teams actually adopting Claude-powered features at scale, not just Salesforce and Anthropic announcing a partnership that looks good on an earnings call.
