Anthropic has extended included access to Claude Fable 5 on paid plans for a second time, pushing the cutoff from July 12 to July 19, 2026. The change was confirmed in an updated Claude Help Center article, which Anthropic updated the same day rather than publishing a dedicated newsroom post.
The extension means Pro, Max, Team, and eligible premium Enterprise seats can keep using Fable 5 for up to 50 percent of their weekly plan limits at no extra cost through July 19 at 11:59:59 PM PT. Anthropic is also keeping Claude Code's weekly rate limits 50 percent higher through the same date.
Fable 5 first launched on June 9, 2026, alongside Claude Mythos 5. Three days later, a US export control order forced Anthropic to suspend both models worldwide. Access stayed down for 19 days until the order was lifted and Fable 5 returned on July 1.
When it came back, the included access was scheduled to end on July 7. Anthropic pushed that date to July 12, then again to July 19, two extensions in six days, each announced close to the prior deadline.

Book Your Free ConsultationNothing about the mechanics has changed across either extension, only the date. Fable 5 draws from the same weekly pool as other Claude models, so heavy use of Sonnet 5 or Opus 4.8 reduces how much Fable 5 headroom remains.
Once a user's 50 percent allowance runs out, or once July 19 passes, Fable 5 switches to prepaid usage credits at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, among the highest per-token pricing Anthropic has listed for a public model. Free-tier accounts, standard Enterprise seats, usage-based Enterprise plans, and API access were never covered by the promotion.
The extension arrived the same week OpenAI's GPT-5.6 family, including Sol, Terra, and Luna, moved from limited preview to full public availability on July 9. Cynoteck covered that rollout in its report on GPT-5.6 clearing US government review, and several outlets have since noted that Sol's benchmark scores land close to Fable 5's on some measures while costing less per task.
Anthropic has not publicly tied the extension to OpenAI's launch. Repeated short extensions have also drawn criticism from users who say they make Fable 5 harder to plan around, even though each one has kept the terms unchanged.
For teams building workflows on Fable 5, access has not been confirmed beyond July 19. According to Forbes, a Claude Code lead engineer has said Anthropic aims to restore Fable 5 as a standard subscription inclusion once it has enough compute capacity, though no date has been set.
Businesses evaluating frontier AI vendors right now have an unusually direct comparison available, with OpenAI's newly public GPT-5.6 models and Anthropic's Fable 5 competing for the same workloads at similar price points. Cynoteck has also covered how Microsoft's Shadow Mode feature addresses the same underlying trust question from a different angle, letting teams validate AI decisions before switching on automation.
Anthropic extended Fable 5 access on paid plans to July 19, 2026, the second extension in six days.
The 50 percent weekly usage cap and other terms are unchanged from the July 1 relaunch.
After the window closes, Fable 5 usage is billed at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
The extension coincides with OpenAI's GPT-5.6 reaching general availability on July 9.
Anthropic has said it aims to restore standard Fable 5 access once capacity allows, without giving a firm date.
Anthropic has not said whether July 19 is a final deadline or another temporary one. Businesses building on Fable 5 should treat the date as provisional and keep a fallback model ready in case the window closes as scheduled. It's a reminder that AI vendors across the board, including Salesforce's own Agentforce Commerce agents, are still adjusting pricing and access terms in real time as adoption scales.
